I have to admit that I don't follow US political issues very closely, but it's hard not to know they
have a big election coming up and there are some pretty crazy things going on in the run up.
Watching footage of Glenn Beck, Sarah Palin and Co. on tonight's BBC documentary about
the Tea Party of America was a bit disturbing.
Actually, my main window into US news is Jon Stewart's Daily Show,
but that suits me fine when he does sensible things like staging a Rally to Restore Sanity in an
effort to give a voice to the people who think shouting is annoying, counterproductive, and terrible
for your throat; who feel that the loudest voices shouldn’t be the only ones that get heard; and who
believe that the only time it’s appropriate to draw a Hitler mustache on someone is when that
person is actually Hitler. Or Charlie Chaplin in certain roles..
A rally for the people who’ve been too busy to go to rallies, who actually have lives and families
and jobs (or are looking for jobs) — not so much the Silent Majority as the Busy Majority.
Here are some of my favourite banners from the rally, which was held over the weekend...
