Tandem Wanted

  • Posted by aron

Hello folks. That time has come again when we need your help.

We would like to borrow a tandem bike for the next howies photoshoot.

We need it it soon though as the shoot is just around the corner.

If you can help us out then email a photo of your tandem bike to Millie at photoshoot@howies.co.uk

The more local you are the better. We can pick it up or arrange a collection.

Thanks.

45rpm WHAT

45rpm also goes by the name Matt. You might have met him when he worked at the howies store in Bristol or perhaps you'd have seen him on his fixed gear bike flying down Park street wearing one of our t-shirts. He's instantly recognizable, with a big beard and mesmerizing eyes. He's a howies man through and through.

As well as setting up a bike collective called No Gears Bristol he's a graffiti artist specializing in custom typography and one half of the WHAT collective.

We love his work, especially his recent submission (below) for a competition by Dont Panic. Years of broken and used skate decks have been recycled to create this unique piece of art.

If you like you can help him win a hamper of fruit by voting for his submission right here.

And to see more of his work on flickr you can click right here.

Oh, and you can follow his rants on twitter here > @45rpmWHAT

I think that's everything.

Florence’s Finest

howies team rider Dan Yeomans is also an artist (and a pretty fine one at that). In true Mr Yeomans style, he has excelled once again by receiving an invitation to Florence Academy of Art - arguably the most prestigious art school in Europe.

So this is where you come in. To help fund his studies Dan is offering anyone interested the opportunity to order a painting in advance. Once his studies are complete he will then paint you a portrait as agreed.

For more information please have a look at his donation page here and watch his video. Dan's painting skills are exceptional, he even did a portrait for our Lou.

For more of Dan's work, visit his site here.

Thanks.

GoPro HD

I'm sure most people are aware of this camera. It did the rounds on the internet earlier this year, everyone went crazy about it, and all for the right reasons. It captures HD quality footage, has the ability to be strapped to most parts of your body (thanks to its small size) and comes in at a reasonable £200. It gets me even more excited at the thought of having one for my snowboard trip at the end of this month. Tomos and I are heading to Val d'Isere with a group of 41 people. Filming a convoy charging down a mountain would be epic.

I would happily trade back my socks with Santa for one of these.

Going to see these guys tomorrow night in Cardiff International Arena.

Love this song.

What's been your favourite gig this year?

Steve Leard is a graphic designer and illustrator living in Bristol. He's a graduate of the Cardiff School of Art & Design 2007 (same as me), and currently works for award-winning design studio Staziker Jones, who are based in Cardiff.

He's a thoroughly nice chap and a very good friend of mine, which is why I want to share with you his new website.

His portfolio consists of a mix of illustration, typography, branding and web design. It features new work, including his illustration for the recent Ink Dot Exhibition (pictured above), which howies exhibited last year.

You can follow his twitter feed here and view his website here > LEARD

And if you like design blogs, he has one of those too > DesignYak

Great stuff mate.
