Just heard from Ade down at the sample sale in London, sounds like it's all going really well, lots of people grabbing some gold.

We're sending down another nine boxes full of delicious bargains which will hopefully arrive by tomorrow morning, so even if you've already been down - it'll be worth another visit!

Atten-shun troops.

This is the most important Doh Boy Army Mission of Real Bread Maker Week 2011.

One in ten children starting primary school in Britain are now regarded as alarmingly overweight, and parents could soon begin to outlive their children because of this epidemic of obesity afflicting the younger generation…that's crazy.

So in the words of George Benson: "The children are our future, teach them well and let them show the way…"

Mission:

Make real bread with your children or a young family member:

http://www.howies.co.uk/dohboy/recipe.php ** please note though that you should only use 20g salt...not the 30g stated....bad doh boy!

Location:

Your kitchen.

Date & Time:

14–15 May 2011.

...Good luck...!

For today's Final Mission, Doh Boy joined Sarah Galloway and Laura Gallagher from the Lost in the Forest Institute (http://www.litfi.ac) and baker Aurelia Doyotte for a Real Bread Making Class with a lively class of Year 5 pupils at Greenside Primary School in Droylsden, Manchester.

Be sure to email your results too - info@howies.co.uk or even pop them up on our facebook page

Atten-shun Doh Boys!

All this week we'll be celebrating Real Bread Makers week, and every day Doh Boy (with the help of the good folks at thoughtful) will use the howies blog to task the DB-army to help spread the good word.

We've just received today's instructions from the man himself:-

"Doh Boys.

Your first mission is to stand guard and make sure no-one eats any supermarket bread this week…

tell them to make, try or buy some real, fat free bread.

Download the PDF and wear your Real Bread Day uniform with pride.

Take a picture of yourself guarding the bread and send it in to the guys at howies - info@howies.co.uk

…you lovely boys"

So there we have it, go spread the word

If you fancy making something a little bit more daring than a white loaf then here's the River Cottage's recipe for Perfect Brown Bread - sounds gooooood.

The DohBoy army is rising!

A couple of months ago we blogged about LITF's support of the Doh boy misson -  leading the fight for a return to simple, good old fashioned bread that tasted of something and yet contained no fat.

Well folks, this is the week Doh Boy has been waiting for -  Real bread Maker Week, which runs from today (the 9th) up until the 15th,  and the guys at LITF have a mission for the DohBoy army – we know you're out there and you can help by spreading the real bread message...

....missions will follow tomorrow...

I've just had an email through from Phil about Bespoked Bristol - the UK’s first handmade & boutique bicycle show, which is coming up in a few weeks time.

The event will showcase the talents of independent makers and designers of bicycles, small-scale makers of premium products, components, clothing, bicycle accessories and media, so well worth a visit!

Entry tickets are available on the door at £5 per person (children under 14 free) but if you get in there quick and order online before 31st May then you can have 2for1 entry - check out the web link for more info on that.

Bespoked have also just launched the Handmade Bicycle directory - a great resource listing handmade bicycle and component makers in the UK and beyond. the UK edition will form part of the Bespoked show catalogue...so that's another reason to head on down there.

In other bike-related news.....I bought my first bike last weekend! well, the first bike i've owned since i was about 11 years old... she needs a bit of a cleaning up and pimping out, but i can safely say I'm in love already.

Another Thursday, another bank holiday opening times message - I could get used to these 3 day weeks!

so here we go:

- howies HQ  will be closed tomorrow & Monday, reopening at 9am Tuesday morning to answer your emails and take your calls

- Carnaby street will be open all weekend, open normal hours Saturday/Sunday and then shorter hours tomorrow & Monday (11-5pm) - if you're in London and don't happen to have an invite to a certain wedding then pop in!

- Cardigan shop will be open as usual on Saturday, closed  Sunday... and then 11-4pm tomorrow & on Monday.

....So - what will you be doing over the weekend? and how about you Londoners, will you be caught up in royal wedding fever tomorrow and joining the billions watching, or will you become a Silence Seeker & head for the nearest escape route away from the city?

Me? I'll be off on the hunt to find a bike, that white 1988 Raleigh caprice is out there somewhere I'm sure!

Have a good one whatever you get up to.... and don't forget to send us a photo! (see Ruben's photo comp blog here)

What a sunny week!

As the Beatles once said - "Here comes the sun....Little darling, it's been a long, cold lonely winter....it feels like years since it's been here"

howies HQ will be out the office tomorrow and on Monday as we'll be getting out and embracing the beautiful British bank holiday weather.

It should be a good one - camping trips, bike rides and dips in the sea are all being planned, Em has her new flipflops on ready for the beach and James has even got his white pasty legs out on show.

We'll be back on Tuesday morning though, so just drop us an email to info@howies.co.uk and we'll get back to you as soon as we can.

The Carnaby street store will be open over the bank holiday weekend though, Mark and the guys will be there 11-5pm tomorrow, normal hours saturday, and then 11-5pm again for sunday & monday.

If you're planning a trip to london then pop in and say hello (preferably with something chocolaty or cake-shaped) ...or give them a call on 0207 287 2345 to see if they can help at all.

Or, if you're lucky enough to be staying in our 'hood this weekend then the Cardigan shop will be open tomorrow (11-4pm), closed sunday, and then open 11-4pm on Monday. You can give them a call on 01239 623745.

If you are around Pembrokeshire then i recommend a trip to Whitesands beach (near St.Davids) - the photo above is a quick snapshot i took last bank holiday (i think) ....but enjoy yourselves whatever you get up to.

Oh, and Ps don't forget that we've got 20% off tops, polos & jumpers until tuesday too!
