London Sample Sale

  • Posted by ruben
  • 19 May 2010

It's that time again. Barny is down and the sample sale team is gearing up for their latest trip to Brick Lane's Old Truman Brewery this weekend.

This time we're going to be right next to 14 Bikes Co. and there will be some other cool brands coming along to run sample sales of their own as well, so it's going to be a good event.

We will have a great selection of one off samples, plenty of bargains and a few items that need a little love with a button or a stitch.

Click here for a map. The nearest tube station is Liverpool St. and if you come on a bike you're welcome to bring it in.

Our opening times will be:

20th Thursday 4pm – 9pm
21st Friday 11am – 8pm
22nd Saturday 11am – 6pm
23rd Sunday 11am – 5pm

See you there.

P.S. Bring your own bag, we don’t have any. Sorry.

Cwm Rhaeadr Trails

Me and Hicksey set off at the crack of dawn this morning to visit the MTB trails at Cwm Rhaeadr.

There's just one 6km loop with a 3km climb followed by a long decent on some really nice singletrack. It's one of those runs that can be as challenging as you want it to be. You could easily roll everything, but if you go for it there're some nice jumps and tricky bumpy bits.

We did two quick laps, and had a great time. The views were amazing in the mid morning sun, with a waterfall in the distance (there's a footpath that takes you closer to that I think)

Well worth a look.

Buzz... twack

Riding home this evening through the lovely spring evening, I was reminded of one of my least favourite things that the warmer brings - little gangs of flies lying in wait for unwary cyclists. Every time I whizzed past a blossoming hawthorn bush, there they were in their dozens.

Time to get the sunglasses out and stop riding with my mouth open I think.

Iceland diving

We just got this email in -

Hi lovely howies people,

Iceland is in the news a lot today which reminded me to send you these pics from our weekend there a few weeks ago.

We went diving in the Silfra Ravine, crystal clear, glacial melt water - amazing visibility!  At 1 degree it was a bit chilly but we were kept nice and toasty in our howies thermals, love the New Bay Surf top.

We also got up close and personal with the now rather famous volcano.

Amazing trip - happy days

Doodle jump up the mountain

Ade and I just got home from a whirlwind trip up to Manchester to meet some people and learn some stuff.

On the way there we passed one of Wales' most famous mountains, Cader Idris, and had a go at running up it.

The low clouds and mist coupled with the fading light made for a great atmosphere filled with looming rock faces and peaks rising out of the gloom.

We made it up the hundreds of beautifully built stone steps and to the lake in the middle, where we turned around and came back down to beat the dark.

40 minutes of real life doodle jump.

It was an amazing place and a great run. Must go back.

(And in case you were wondering, the echo up there was brilliant)

Daylight savings

The clocks went forward on the weekend. That meant an hour less sleep, but an hour more daylight in the evening.

To celebrate the extra light, I went along to Mwnt with Scott to join him for one of his training sessions.

We ran from the beach, up all the steps, along the top of the cliffs and up the hill.  Great view.

We ran back down and did it all over again, and again, and...

Then just as the light and our legs were fading, we finished with a set of sprints.

My lungs boiled and my legs went wobbly.

I decided I'm not training for anything in particular.

I'm running for that place your head goes when your body comes alive.

A Beautiful Machine

When the spirits are low, when the day appears dark, when work becomes monotonous, when hope hardly seems worth having, just mount a bicycle and go for a spin down the road, without thought on anything but the ride. - Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

Beginning Friday March 26th McFaulStudio and howies have curated a two-week event of art, talk and ride based above the howies store in Bristol. We have reached out to those who ride, those who allow us to ride...and those who want us to ride, bringing us all together in a carnival of bicycle. Those who design and those who draw, those who paint or shoot or sew, those who talk or make, those who fix and those who nurture are all involved as they all share a love of A Beautiful Machine.

Over 50 artists from around the Globe. 15 incredible speakers over 5 evening talks. 1 bicycle treasure hunt. 1 rather special bicycle auction and 1 Critical Mass. Two weeks in Bristol. A lot of fun.

All the artwork is auctioned, and evening talks ticketed (£5) in aid if the Save the Children – Haiti Appeal.

Let the good times roll!

Just had word from Ade that he's arrived safely in Manchester with his team and is just about to open the doors on the latest sample sale.

The first day is always the busiest, so if you would like to get hold of some of our best samples and last-in-the-box items at sample sale prices, then you best get down there sooner rather than later.

You can find full details of the sale, including opening times and location here

Bullshit Budget Cuts t-shirt

Leave 6 Music and the Asian network alone. We are pretty disappointed here at howies after hearing the BBC's decision to axe 6 Music and the Asian Network. So here's our t-shirt to tell the beeb what we think about their dumbass decision. Lets hope the BBC trust see some sense, that they listen to some old John Peel shows and understand that to take away the music of the people is to take away their blood. Music is life.
