For the first time ever 30 years of Skateboard history comes to Bristol at the howies and Shiner Gallery Exhibition "Deckades".

Skateboard Deck art has always been hugely influential and collectible to skaters as well as those in creative circles. This exclusive one off exhibition features legendary boards from three decades of skate art that show the incredible creativity that hides underneath the top of every skateboard.

Uniquely the show also features brand new artwork from none other than the iconic "Jim Phillips" . Pete Fowler, Geoff McFetridge French and Kev Grey are exhibiting as well as well as Jago, China Mike, Gav Strange and a host of others who have kindly donated a board each to be auctioned for UNICEF.

The Deckades skateboard deck exhibition starts on the 17th April and runs for a month. You can see all the boards at the howies Gallery which is at 62 Queens Road Bristol.

Adventurists Film Festival

This film festival on Saturday sounds great fun, wish it was in Bristol.....

The first ever Adventurists Film Festival

For six glorious, mayhem-filled years The Adventurists' teams have been filming their mischievous, daring and often downright shocking exploits.

The first ever Film Festival will be a showcase of the very finest of these films made while thundering across continents in ridiculously unsuitable vehicles. There'll be talks from adventurers and film makers and an exclusive screening of a documentary about the Rickshaw Run and Mongol Rally. Plus of course the winning film will be announced by the judging panel and the prizes awarded and backs slapped heartily.

The mac daddy of adventure films, Benedict Allen, is giving a talk at 2.45pm. As the pioneer of filming authentic journeys for television he has made 6 TV series for the BBC, written 10 books and been described as “part of television history” by the Director General of the BBC. A proper legend of adventure.

27th March 11:30 - 6pm at Coronet Cinema, 103 Notting Hill Gate, London W11 3LB

A Beautiful Machine

When the spirits are low, when the day appears dark, when work becomes monotonous, when hope hardly seems worth having, just mount a bicycle and go for a spin down the road, without thought on anything but the ride. - Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

Beginning Friday March 26th McFaulStudio and howies have curated a two-week event of art, talk and ride based above the howies store in Bristol. We have reached out to those who ride, those who allow us to ride...and those who want us to ride, bringing us all together in a carnival of bicycle. Those who design and those who draw, those who paint or shoot or sew, those who talk or make, those who fix and those who nurture are all involved as they all share a love of A Beautiful Machine.

Over 50 artists from around the Globe. 15 incredible speakers over 5 evening talks. 1 bicycle treasure hunt. 1 rather special bicycle auction and 1 Critical Mass. Two weeks in Bristol. A lot of fun.

All the artwork is auctioned, and evening talks ticketed (£5) in aid if the Save the Children – Haiti Appeal.

Let the good times roll!

Last week Dave Sparshott came into the store for a few days to do a mural up our stairwell.  It depicts a journey from Cardigan to Bristol to Carnaby Street.  It was really nice having Dave around for a couple of days (we were all inspired to doodle works of art while he was here!)

It looks awesome...so come by and check it out!  If you want to find out about more of his work click here.

It was such a lovely weekend 'weatherwise'

There wasn't a cloud in the sky over Cardigan yesterday, and although it was still pretty cold it finally feels as if we're starting to shake off the last bits of winter and can look forward to Spring.

What better way to sum up springtime than snowdrops - I took this yesterday afternoon while on a walk through Cwm Degwel. lovely stuff! Viva la primavera!
