build it and they will come

I found this really nice little vid while doing my usual sunday night browse on the 500 photographers website last night.

Swiss photographer/videographer Yann Gross travelled to Uganda in 2009 to document the building of Kitintale skatepark, the first (and at the time) only skatepark in East Africa. Built entirely by the community, without help or support from the government, his documentary below is a really charming watch, and a nice way to spend 10 minutes of your day.

oh, and "You can be a doctor AND a professional skateboarder" is one of the best quotes i've heard for a while :- )

Just found this, pretty clever -

Anthony Burrill & Purple Monkey Design in New Orleans went and scooped up a bunch of the oil BP spilt into the Gulf of Mexico and used it to print these posters... find out more here

We got this water bottle in the post and inside was this amazing embroidered message from Hazel.

If her clothing design is as good as her ideas and blog, the girl will go far.

Check out her blog here.

Early Christmas present

My dad has just given me this gem of a book. It's a 1973 book of 100 bike posters from around the world.
He saw it in the window of an antiques shop and was there first thing the next day to pick it up. It was a case of "I could wait till Christmas but I'm too excited to, so have it now."
I need to get him a "best dad" t shirt as this is now on my list of top possessions.
Can't wait to get them scanned and printed so I can get some in frames...

Cheers then Matt/45

Foodscapes

If there are two things in the world i am a big fan of, it's food and photography.

If you are in London at all today then please go along to St Pancras International station and see the amazing Carl Warner's Foodscapes exhibition.

I was in London just last weekend and am a bit gutted i missed out on this one. He's a British still life photographer who creates insane landscapes entirely out of food.

The exhibition is totally free, and he'll even be at there at the station, working on, and then unveiling a brand new lanscape that's made entirely out of chocolate.

click here to visit Carl's website.

hmmm... i'm hungry.

simply beautifully functional
