Dan Yeomans Art

As well as being a world class mountain biker, howies team rider Dan Yeomans is a dab-hand at painting. As Dan puts it, "the painting above is of Mal, a lovely old guy who pops by pretty much on a daily basis and tells wicked stories in his welsh accent that's really quite hard to understand".

You can see all his work here – http://www.danyeomans-art.com/ – including a painting he did recently for our Louise.

All artwork is available to purchase and he also does commissions, in case you're after something special.

Movember

The month of Movember (formerly known as November) is quickly creeping up on us and plans for the 'Month of the moustache' are starting to take shape. Here in the Bristol shop we will be dedicating our gallery space upstairs to artwork influenced by the mighty moustache in order to support the international campaign for awareness of Prostate cancer.

This is the first shout out for all of you to get your creative caps on and start thinking about possible moustache masterpieces that can be featured in our collaborative exhibition. It is definitely a case of 'the more (moustaches) the merrier'... if only to ensure that Matt H and his eggs with tache's don't take over the show. As you can see, anything goes... illustration, painting, sculpture, photography, film and eggs.

Watch this space for more info on Movember in Bristol, but until then take a look at Movember's website.

Spent a bit of time (maybe too much time) last night drawing some eggstra characters...

Illustration Exhibition

Friday night saw the launch of our new exhibition in our gallery space upstairs. The exhibition features 12 of howies favourite Illustrators and showcases a selection of their work, both past and present. To celebrate this creative reunion, we have had a limited print t-shirt made up with our doodling friends rewriting the howies logo. If you didn't make it on Friday night you may have missed out on organic cider, scones and brownies...but you still have the rest of the month to pop in, check out the work and grab yourself a t-shirt.

Come along on Friday evening between 6 and 10pm and join us for an end-of-the-week/ start-of-the-weekend drink from our friends at Bath Ales. See you there!

Paris Vol. 5

Just stumbled across this stunning stop motion animation of Paris by Thom & Vin of @seventhmovement

I highly recommend watching this in HD and reading their story on the video page over here.

This is the intro -

Entry from July 27, 2009 "We are jet-lagged and exhausted. The alarm blared at 4:30 am. Without opening my eyes I hit the snooze. "Just five more minutes" I told myself… "Lets go dude" a groggy voice commanded from the background. I didn't move. Out of nowhere, a pillow slammed down on my head, the mattress is lifted out from under me, and I hit the hardwood floor just missing my camera bag. "Ugh not again" I thought, but I knew he was right, we needed to hustle across the city and get our cameras rolling before sunrise. "

One Week Only!

Just a reminder that we still have the cycling exhibition upstairs at the Bristol shop for another week.

There's loads of photographs, illustrations and even 40 bespoke cycling caps designed by local artists. (These are going to be auctioned off, but more about that later in the week!)

So if you haven't been to see it already, get down to the shop and have a look around.  If you ask nicely we might even put the kettle on!

The Daily Shoot

I like photography.

One of the things i like most is when you manage to catch those little unexpected and spontaneous moments, the ones where you know it's actually been worth lugging your camera kit about in your bag all day...you know,' just incase'

But sometimes we all need a little inspiration..

I've only been following @thedailyshoot on twitter for about a week, but for those days when you really WANT to get out with your camera but aren't quite sure what to shoot, it's a godsend!

Every day they tweet a new challenge or idea and off you go! If you dont have twitter then don't worry, they update their site everyday too.

One of the most interesting things is to see how everybody else interprets the same idea - 'beauty is in the eye of the beholder' and all that.

...now, get snappin'!'

Enjoyed The Ride

We had a full house last night for The Ride Journal's Wee Do talk. Lots of people...

Lots of bikes...

Lots of fun. A big thank you to everyone who came to see it, and of course the Diprose brothers (The Ride Journal creators) for a really good talk. And an extra thank you to Innocent Drinks and Pitfield Beers (we had a fair few) for keeping us hydrated.

It was inspirational stuff. See you at the next one!
