New Bird

i blogged this a while back DIY or DIE about a Skatepark being built on some disused land in Liverpool. Even with the owners eventual permission, help from the local builders, alot of bad backs and a fair bit of money from all the skaters involved, the inevitable has happened and the local council are trying to close it down.

i know for a fact that there's alot more pressing issues in Liverpool that deserve the councils attention, this is not one of them.

show your support.

I found this really nice little vid while doing my usual sunday night browse on the 500 photographers website last night.

Swiss photographer/videographer Yann Gross travelled to Uganda in 2009 to document the building of Kitintale skatepark, the first (and at the time) only skatepark in East Africa. Built entirely by the community, without help or support from the government, his documentary below is a really charming watch, and a nice way to spend 10 minutes of your day.

oh, and "You can be a doctor AND a professional skateboarder" is one of the best quotes i've heard for a while :- )

Went on a little trip to Hossegor a few weeks back. It's the second time I've been there. I found this gem the first time I was there, but didn't have my board. I was determined to skate it this time. I could only take hand luggage so customs was a little sketchy.

But I wasn't so lucky on the way back home. The lovely people at French customs weren't too happy with a skateboard on the plane.

At least they let me keep my bolts.

Deckades X Unicef

I received this letter this morning from Unicef thanking us for the donation from the Deckades auction from earlier this year.

The donation was £3,500.

I just wanted to take this opportunity to say thanks again to everyone involved in the show & auction,

Chris Allen & Darren Rathbone from Shiner Ltd, Tim March, Anna Feltron, Bristol shop staff, all the artists who contributed their skills & lastly to all the people who bought the Skateboard decks.

You all did us proud.

Many many thanks.

When councils listen...

When councils listen, you get a skatepark like this one in Cardiff Bay.
A football-pitch-sized nirvana of glass smooth concrete and interesting lines.
You know, stuff that skaters actually want to skate.
(not some waste of money playground company garbage that will rarely get used).
So well done to Cardiff City Council. .
Well done for listening to the end-user.
Well done for building it with such care and finesse.
Well done for giving up such prime real estate.
and well done for thinking different, you've built something great.

And the skateboarders salute you for it.

for the month of June the Carnaby Street gallery will be playing host to the work of photographer Jack Symes. now based in london but hailing from chester, his work is based around skateboarding, bike riding, good times and attempting to fill his spare days with as many adventures and interesting things that he could find.

come down and have a look at his results.

Jack studied photographic arts at the university of westminster and is currently looking for work based around his experience.
