On press

Last week i managed to go see our upcoming Autumn catalogue on press. It was real nice seeing what happens with your work after you've handed it over, all the processes it goes through and the equipment used. Their big press can do 40,000 prints an hour. Crazy fast. So here's some pics...

Above is the machine that feeds the paper through into these printers...

Out of shot is another set of six, where one side of the sheet is printed on before turning over and going through this set. End result being this...

Our Autumn 2009 catalogue cover.

To see the rest you'll have to wait til September.

Just got this from Nick.

Had the best swell in ages down here yesterday morning, with glassy 4-6ft walls and the largest pod of dolphins I have ever experienced in Cornwall - I even shared a wave with 5 of them..! It was way too big for my new noserider, but the bonzer was flying...

Check out the new range of fins from Loose-Fit surf shop, who kindly sorted me out with a ridiculously comfy, super stretchy West Lotus wetsuit. Constructed from limestone based neoprene, West take their environmental impact seriously as a company, with biodegradable packaging and a movement away from oil based materials.

All those who think howies should do a merino lined, limestone based neoprene wetsuit say, aye...

Glass Tiger Surf Boards

Mark from Glass Tiger has always been a grand guy, we took his amazing boards on the Footprints Spring 2009 shoot and they stood the test on time in and out of the camper van and the Portgual sunshine. Plus they ride amazingly. Our team riders Sam and Nick ride them and I am jealous because I want one.

Mark has made this movie about his craftsmanship that goes into  the environmentally responsible surf boards. Check Tiger Surf Boards for the information about the boards.

Loving the Tiger.

Check out the movie.

My Lovely new surfboard

Got a new board at the end of last week from Loose fit in Braunton North Devon, I've never had a custom board built for me before and quite frankly its a revalation. I phoned the ever so helpful Mikey a couple of months ago saying i wasn't getting on so well with the single fin I was using, everyone who borrowed it thought it was great but I just couldn't get it going, so he asked me what i wanted out of a board, I told him, he told his shaper and what came back was not only one of the most beautiful boards i have ever seen but it actually does everything I wanted it to do. This just amazes me and I'm putting it down to witchcraft, apparently its more to do with concaves, rocker and pins but I'm still going with the black magic theory. The absolute icing on the cake though was the amazing fin, a real thing of beauty. So a massive thanks to Mikey and Jon at Loose fit for making my year. Have a look at more board porn at www.loose-fit.co.uk and be sure to have a look at the fin section as our own Nick Radford has got a couple of his designs up there.

I don't know about you, but I love to watch women's specific sports movies.  I love to see how women bring something different in style and progression.  It inspires me to push myself further, to get over my stupid fears and ride the best I can.  I suck at surfing...but watching the trailer for 'Dear & Yonder', Roxy's new international surf movie, gets me stoked!

Check out their website for more info.
