Hope Tweed Jacket - £99

  • Posted by emma
  • 24 November 2010

Now we have found some womens Hope jackets down the back of that pesky howies sofa!

To clear the last few, we’ve decided to do a bit of a special offer.
£99 down from £190. We reckon that’s a pretty good deal for you girls out there.

They would make a lovely present for someone as well.

The Hope jacket is a timeless looking sporty bomber style jacket. Made in the UK from wool tweed from the Isle of Mull, which has been woven especially for howies. The main colour of the tweed is the natural grey of the sheep's wool and the light and dark blue colours of the check have been created by dyeing the wool with woad. Two hand pockets. Fixed hood with wooden toggle button fastener. Internal bound seams. Lined sleeve. Ribbed cuff.

Best be quick though, we only have 6 women's size 12, 8 women's size 14 and 3 women's size 16.

Even if these sizes do say sold out on the site please do try calling as there may be one left in the box.

You can call us on 01239 614 122 to grab one, or order online here.

(Psst - if you order by 12 noon tomorrow, you can get an extra 20% off with our speedboat offer.)

You know the saying: “Been there, done that, got the T-shirt.” Quite clever, whoever coined it. Bit of an annoying naff-orism now.

Sometimes though we need to do it the other way round. We need to live our T-shirts.

Let me explain.

I sometimes wear a T-shirt which says “TIME NOT CASH”. I like it.

T-shirts are a nice way of preaching, of pushing the dogma you have chosen to live by. It’s ramming your beliefs down people’s throats, but in a gentle, non-confrontational, stylish way.

“Money is not the most important thing in the world,” I am saying to the world. “But time is. Time is gold to me. Give me more time to do good stuff, to have fun, to laugh with friends, to read good books, to ride my bike. And, above all, do not waste my time doing unimportant stuff.”

But, in rare lucid moments of frustration, I realise that this is not what I’m actually doing with my life.

I am one of the too-few lucky people in the world who earns enough money to pay my taxes, buy enough food, and have a roof over my head. If you have seen me in my T-shirt you would therefore think I have everything I could want. And I do. So why then do I catch myself sitting through sunset after sunset at my desk, working, working, working to earn more and more money?

It is very easy to wear very idealistic T-shirts, to have wonderful statements of intent emblazoned across our hearts. But it is far more difficult to actually live by these mantras, to pursue an uncluttered life focused on the stuff that really counts.

So I’m going to finish this post now. I’m going to make myself a cup of tea. I’m going to go and sit outside under a tree and stare at the clouds for ten minutes. And if I catch myself fretting that that is ten minutes wasted, ten minutes of work down the drain, then I’m going to punch myself!

Time not cash. It’s not a t-shirt slogan. It’s a manifesto for life.

What does it say on your t-shirt?

Vantage Point Ventile - £125

We've found some mens Vantage Point ventile jackets down the back of the famous howies sofa.
(We were looking for change to fund a sneaky trip to Yum Yum's sweet shop on the high street.)

The Vantage Point is made from one of our favourite fabrics Ventile cotton. Ventile is so tightly woven that water has difficulty penetrating through the fabric. A high quality Riri waterproof zip will also help keep the elements at bay. Rope style drawcord and leather toggles secure and cinch the hood, while flaps conceal zip-closed pockets big enough for a phone, wallet or compact camera.

To clear the last few, we've decided to do a bit of a special offer.
£125 down from £275. We reckon that's a pretty good deal.

Best be quick though, we only have 7 men's mediums and 12 men's larges so it's first come first served.

You can call us on 01239 614122 to grab one or order online here.

disclaimer - they're as cosy as wearing your pyjamas underneath your strides, be warned, you won't want to take them off.

Available here in Carnaby, Bristol shop and Online.

Quite a long while back now, we printed this rather nice design by Matt 'blackbelt' Jones as one
of our T-Shirts of the Week.

It was rather popular at the time, and we've had more than a couple of people asking us
to reprint it since.

Well, we've finally bowed to your requests and it's back again.
This time on our Vintage Red blanks for men and women.

Even if you didn't see the original when we first put it up online, you may have seen a certain BBC
presenter wearing one of them recently on his new show, Man Lab.

Aberteifi & Fish

Aberteifi and Fish

This month's T-shirt of the Month is 'Aberteifi and Fish', by Steven Bonner.

This one is a tribute to a very special place (and absolutely nothing
to do with a certain preppy American clothing brand)...

Aberteifi is the Welsh name for howies' hometown of Cardigan.
Coming from the words 'Aber', meaning mouth of the river
and 'Teifi', the name of the river running through Cardigan.
A river famous for its otters, not to mention its abundance of fish.

If you've been here you'll know why it deserves a t-shirt.
If not, when are you coming to visit?

Quickburst jacket - 20 left.

Last week, Tidy and I went down to Poppit with Ade and his brand spanking new Madone to shoot some footage of the Quickburst jacket. Here's what we came back with:

We came in this morning to find that the video and the jacket had been more popular than we'd expected over the weekend - and we have less than 20 of them left in stock now.

So if you're in the market for a warm jacket that easily turns into a gillet for this winter's riding - you best be quick. At £99 they're not going to be around for long.

Click here to see the jacket and find out more.

(if your size is sold out, it may be worth giving us a call on 01239 614 122 in case we have one left in the warehouse)

The things we find...

If you have ever been to cardigan shop, then you’ll know it’s full of old (and new) gems. People come into the shop looking for things that we don’t make anymore.

At the same time people have a love/hate relationship with the shop. One week you can come into the shop and find the perfect thing, like that old pair of skomer jeans you loved so much. Then the next time you come into the shop and we will have sold out, or, even worse sold out of your size…

It’s odd though, because although that was the last pair and we all know they are gone they will sometimes reappear a few weeks/months/years down the line.

Like this Hand-Me-Down Messenger bag. I knew we sold out, so did customer service and even the warehouse (we’ve asked them poor guys to search top to bottom for these bags).

Still - I opened a box earlier today to find the very last messenger.

Yup we have one left in stock…

If you would like it, just call or pop in.

Daylight Savings

We are enjoying some rather unseasonal warm weather in Cardigan Bay this week. So we are making the
most of the beautiful evening light before the clocks change. We've paddled the river while it's calm, skated shirtless in the beaming October sunshine and even got in a few last minute sea swims.

But before the dark gets darker quicker, we thought we'd make the sun shine a little longer and offer you a few savings on selected products. So here are some treats that should brighten the day, no matter how dark it gets.
