Nick Hand just sent me this info over about Julien Temple's film about the Clash's Joe Strummer which is on channel 4 tonight at 11.40pm. Stay up and watch it if you haven't seen it. Horlicks and biscuits, or maybe tea toast and marmite. Cant wait.
Here's a great interview with Julien that was done when Joe's documentary came out. Click here to watch it, 10 mins.
'Fatal Microbes' was the name of a group of kids with average age of 13 who in 1979 released an EP entitled Violence Grows. Honey Bane the singer still does gigs. Growing up as a kid is not always easy and 29 years ago these nippers pretty much nailed it on the head. The children are here and now. Hear them sing.
So Tim's given me the job off throwdown threes this friday. This week our tracks have been chosen by Nick Hand. Nick is a master of design and he helps us with catalogues, photography & shop fitting. So here they are:
Calexico/Iron and Wine: He Lays in the Reins (from the album In The Reins)
The Clash: Death or Glory (from the album London Calling)
M. Ward: Let's Dance (from the album Transfiguration of Vincent)
At the the do lectures i had the pleasure of meeting the local legend known as `wozza `woz. A true hip hop head and a fella with an unhealthy interest in 12 vinyl and bmx bikes, and also a good friend of the cardigan howies crew.
After chatting for some time about our record collections he promised me a remix. Well this morning when i woke up miserable with a sore throat, a dangly bell in the back of my throat and a spazzy back i was sure not much was going to make me smile, well when the postman came with a little square pack i sure was suprised, the little bugger had finally sent it. I put it on straight away and it's fantastic, smiles started coming fast.
Then i started to feel better, checked my emails, nothing out of the ordinary, then checked out my morbid fascination with the obituaries columns in the dailies. Mitch Mitchell one of the greatest drummers of all time had passed away, a bummer for any music fan.
Jimi hendrix was backed by englishman Mitch who is a incredible percussionist and matched on bass by another other english lad called Noel Redding who passed away in 2003. So there's no one left from that band, now all we have is the music. So off comes the wozza cardigan crew remix and here come the boys who rocked the world.
