the howies headquarters

What a sunny week!

As the Beatles once said - "Here comes the sun....Little darling, it's been a long, cold lonely winter....it feels like years since it's been here"

howies HQ will be out the office tomorrow and on Monday as we'll be getting out and embracing the beautiful British bank holiday weather.

It should be a good one - camping trips, bike rides and dips in the sea are all being planned, Em has her new flipflops on ready for the beach and James has even got his white pasty legs out on show.

We'll be back on Tuesday morning though, so just drop us an email to info@howies.co.uk and we'll get back to you as soon as we can.

The Carnaby street store will be open over the bank holiday weekend though, Mark and the guys will be there 11-5pm tomorrow, normal hours saturday, and then 11-5pm again for sunday & monday.

If you're planning a trip to london then pop in and say hello (preferably with something chocolaty or cake-shaped) ...or give them a call on 0207 287 2345 to see if they can help at all.

Or, if you're lucky enough to be staying in our 'hood this weekend then the Cardigan shop will be open tomorrow (11-4pm), closed sunday, and then open 11-4pm on Monday. You can give them a call on 01239 623745.

If you are around Pembrokeshire then i recommend a trip to Whitesands beach (near St.Davids) - the photo above is a quick snapshot i took last bank holiday (i think) ....but enjoy yourselves whatever you get up to.

Oh, and Ps don't forget that we've got 20% off tops, polos & jumpers until tuesday too!

best weather bike

The weather over here has been bone dry for weeks with about 2 days of showers.

Once the clocks changed the winter bike got a wash and a rest. It's been a stalwart this winter, but in some ways it rides like winter. Hard, head down just getting on with it.

Out came the sun, out came the best bike. It was like riding spring.

Fresh, snappy and fast. It put the 'ING back in cycling to work.

I took it down the print shop at lunch, gave it a wash. The chain got some summery green oils white dry lube and then 120psi in the rear tyre and 110 in the front for a little grip and vibration reduction.

I bought a water bottle cage and some Nunn hydration stuff.

Tonight it's a long way home ride.

Some political hot potatoes being thrown about here in howies HQ today.

The Alternative Vote Referendum is coming up in a few weeks’ time - and here in the office we've got some certain yes or no votes, whereas others are as yet still undecided....(and then there are those of us that haven't really got a good grasp of what it all means!)

There's a pretty good discussion going on over on our facebook page, so log in and have your say! help those of us who are undecided...(or in some cases have no idea what it's all about!)

Tandem Wanted

Hello folks. That time has come again when we need your help.

We would like to borrow a tandem bike for the next howies photoshoot.

We need it it soon though as the shoot is just around the corner.

If you can help us out then email a photo of your tandem bike to Millie at photoshoot@howies.co.uk

The more local you are the better. We can pick it up or arrange a collection.

Thanks.

cough, sniff, run

My friend Chris is back from Canada. He is the one who got me back into running two years ago. Despite snot a cough and a fragile constitution it was time for the first run in 2 weeks.

He has been working out there for the winter and running ultra marathons and 100 miler. We went for a quick hour round the cliff path.

We left the road from Poppit sands and headed out around Cemaes Head on the Pembrokeshire coastal path. The ground is bone dry and dusty, and the heat over the last few weeks has bought out the 1000's of flying insects you see in the picture. I had to pull my merino over my mouth when we chatted to avoid swallowing air plankton.

We stopped just round the corner 150 meters above  a beach called Traeth Godir-Coch that you can only get to by boat. Over 50 seals were on the beach as it's mating season, and we would see at least 10 in the water. (the i-phone pic was too awful to use)

With the sun heading into the ocean we cut inland through the footpaths and lanes to complete the loop.

I got to ask him the burning question that has been nagging me since reading Born to Run. Can I run 100 miles in the next year. He told me about his highs and lows. Diet. Calorie in take. Kit, training and mindset.

It's mind set.

So I need to sit down with a pen and paper over Easter, work out the plan and book a place on a 100 miler.

If you are out here ever, run this place. The light and the tricks it plays on the eye are worth the odd fly in your eye.

Long weekends.

Still time to order and for us to get your stuff to you in time for these lovely long weekends on the horizon.

Order by Wednesday 3pm and subject to stock availability your parcel will be landing on your door mat by Thursday.

(Some lucky people living in the outlying areas of the UK better order by Tuesday 3pm!)

Plenty of summery layers for when the sun is shining.

Merino to keep you warm when the sun goes down.

if you are riding the dyfi enduro this year, as it's the 10th anniversary, you may want to embellish yourself in something more than lycra.
