The pursuit of speed

Andy Fenn & Mark Cavendish ride the Madison TT

It's been a while since our long drive to Manchester for Revolution, but the reminder of a signed rainbow jersey in the office keeps the evening's entertainment at the NCC on our minds.

We arrived to a lot of excitement and from the team atmosphere in the pit, you could tell it was going to be a special night.

Mark Cavendish arrived to join Jon Mould, Andy Fenn and Team howies' future stars, Elli Coster, Amy Hill, Rebecca Hunt, Zac May, Matt Cross and Owen James where the theme for the night would be smiles and speed.

The pace throughout the night was unimaginable - you almost forget they're riding fixed wheeled bikes as they fly over the boards, narrowly dodging the wheel of the bike in front.

Owen comes off

Despite a nasty off in the first boys Scratch, Owen rode on through the night with bruised thighs and hips on display through his Welsh shorts.

Jumping 2 places from round 1, Team howies now sit in 3rd place.

There's a good write-up on British Cycling as well as a few days left to catch Team howies in action on ITV Player .

Me, Chris & Hazel are running home tonight.

It's going to be dark, cold, windy, and a bit scary when cars pass.

I'll be running at the back, not just because I'm slow - but because I have the rear lights on my bag.

Stay safe, be seen.

Run home.

revolution round 2

This weekend's Revolution is set to be epic and we're off to Manchester to watch our team do what they do best - ride fast.

Checklist for the weekend :

✓ Tickets
✓ Camera
✓ Sat-Nav
✓ Custom team t-shirts
✓ World Road Champion

You may have caught the excitement here in the office a few weeks ago when we got the news. And now we're faced with a rare thrill of watching the World Road Race Champion, not only racing back on the track, but doing it for howies.

Bringing his experience to the team, Mark is riding with our Academy riders Andy Fenn and Jon Mould (who won the Madison TT at the last meet with Leif Lampater).

With so much talent on display, it is little surprise that demand for tickets has exceeded supply. If you didn't get any, don't worry, we'll report back from the event and you can cheer on the team on twitter with #goteamhowies.

Plus, ITV4 have you covered with hour-long highlights of Cav and the team on Monday 21st at 19.00 and on ITV Player shortly after.

One night only

Grazia Night

We're gearing up for a special shopping night tonight here in our Carnaby Street shop.

A whole bunch of stores have joined up with Grazia magazine to offer 20% off to customers, between 5pm and 9pm tonight. If you missed out last year, the night went down a storm.

We've got in an extra load of stuff from HQ for the rush and have been unpacking the boxes all morning.

Before you head on down, you have to register for your free ticket to claim your in-store discount.
No ticket, no discount, sorry. Them’s the rules.

So if you’re in the area, drop in and see us.(and don’t forget that ticket!)

Team howies: Leif Lampeter Q&A

Leif Lampeter rides for team howies

Following our success in the Madison TT at Revolution Round 1, we thought you might enjoy a quick 1 to 5 with Team howies' Leif Lampater.

Why the lairy shorts? Well, normally German Six-day man Leif is found training in his hometown of Rosenheim and rides for RSV Irschenberg.

Putting our first track team together meant picking from a list of riders. Leif was an obvious choice and stood out when you look at his many successes in German and European championships. The guy lives to race track and was more than happy to fly to Manchester and pull on the howies jersey to lend his experience to our track team.

Despite all the wins he is very grounded and easy-going.
You might find you have a few things in common...

1. How did you get started in cycling?
I started cycling as I was absolutely unable to do any kind of ball sports properly!

2. Where do you ride when you just want to ride for fun?
I just take my about 20year old steel race bike to ride into the city.

3. If you could ride in any event in the world, what would it be?
I'd like to take part in any races happening in all areas of the world - I don't know yet.

4. What do you do to relax before a race?
I just like lying in bed.

5. What do you like to do off the bike?
Trying to get all my computer stuff sorted and working.
