Reasons to be Cheerful

The Bristol Barney Bubbles do went off nicely and that had a lot to do with the tunes that were played after Paul Gorman's great talk about his book and a great slide show of Barney's artwork.

Caz DJ'd the night for us and i asked for a set list as it was quite a stormer. I've posted it below. We still have a few of Pauls books left in the shop but they're going fast. If you have an interest in graphic design and art then you really need to check it out as Barney was a true pioneer. Paul has a blog here about him

The incredible thing about the music that was played is that Barney designed their artwork and in some cases made their videos as well. The word genius would not be lost on this man.

We had a hitchless do on Thursday night at the Bristol shop for Paul Gorman's talk slideshow and art exhibition on the artist Barney Bubbles. We also had a great DJ to play out the evening with some very nice Welsh beer and piping hot cups of tea on hand to lighten the impending doom of the weather that was fast approaching Brizz.

Thanks must go out to the Bristol staff with the help of Nick Hand for getting the ball rolling. Alison, Jon and myself took a measly 7.5 hours to get back the next day but we did see Narnia according to Jon which geographically existed between Ross On Wye and Monmouth, how much longer it's there i dont know. Nick took some pics of the do. We'll be having a regular once a month shindigs in the Bristol shop so we'll let you all know when dates and themes are arranged. here's a few pics nick took of the evening.

If you have any ideas about what you'd like to see at the bristol shop drop me a line timathowiesdotcodotuk.

We are due to go to brizzle today for the Barney Bubbles exhibition, these are the pics Nick Hand kindly sent over that illustrate what awaits us. We are on our way.

We are having an exhibition, talk and DJ set at the Bristol Shop on Thursday Evening to celebrate the Life and Outstanding Art of Barney Bubbles who i have blogged about in the past regarding this show. There will be a great deal of Barney's artwork on show and the Author of the Book "Reasons to be Cheerful" Paul Gorman will be in attendance to tell us about Barney's incredible life. Here's the link to the blog.

Please check with the Bristol shop for tickets. It's on a first come first serve basis.

Paul Gorman is a great writer and has to his name a couple of right gems of modern cultural history.

  • In January 2007 Arrow Books published Cry Salty Tears, a story of surviving a life of spousal abuse which Gorman ghostwrote for Boy George’s mother Dinah O’Dowd. This appeared in the Sunday Times Top Ten selling non-fiction hardbacks list.

Reasons to be cheerful

  • In December 2008 Gorman's book Reasons To Be Cheerful, a celebration of the life and work of the pioneering graphic artist Barney Bubbles, was published by Adelita. The Word magazine has hailed the book as "a glorious tribute" and design site AceJet 170 describes it as "the most exciting publication this year".
