first ride

We went out to Poppit Sands today to make a little movie on our Quickburst jacket and it was the first ride out for the new bike project. Tidy Mike was in the boot with the camera, Ruben was at the wheel and I felt the lack of riding I've been doing over the last 3 months. The frameset is the Trek Red OCLV carbon, the groupset Sram Force, wheels by Bontrager and tyres and tubes Conti's Grand Prix 24c ready for winter, saddle Selle Italia and an Easton stem.  I think it's lighter than all the packaging.

And the ahead cap was from the 2007 Single Speed Champs.

I still have some fine tuning to do as things stretch and loosen but the rigidity and the weight are going to be hellish fun round here.

Roll on summer and a hot new tarmac road.

I played my "too nice to be here" card so I can be off tomorrow to give it a roasting.

One Week Only!

Just a reminder that we still have the cycling exhibition upstairs at the Bristol shop for another week.

There's loads of photographs, illustrations and even 40 bespoke cycling caps designed by local artists. (These are going to be auctioned off, but more about that later in the week!)

So if you haven't been to see it already, get down to the shop and have a look around.  If you ask nicely we might even put the kettle on!

what a great couple of days.

we have been out hacking the streets on the fixies. we drove down from Wales and then did a midnight run, then today we got up early did the east end, into the city, into Trafalgar square where we got told to dismount, past downing street, met mike forham who was looking at the houses of parliament. (We had left him in cardigan as he's off on the photo shoot) onto the changing of the guard at Buckingham palace, down crazy Piccadilly, Regent Street, Carnaby Street, Oxford Street and then hoofed it back to the east end. All in hot sunshine.

Tonight we ride again.

And tomorrow morning.

Velo Teifi is a cycling club in Cardigan....during the summer there is a group ride every other Sunday and the "other" every other Sunday is reserved for the ladies only ride

if you want to get from point A to point B in a hurry, ride with the boys

if you want to stop and enjoy the view, ride with the girls....we still do the distance mind you (about 20 miles as a group this past Sunday, with many of us adding mileage before and after the ride to get to and from the meeting point)

Oh and we always end with a nice peice of cake :-)

really nice way to spend a Sunday

I have fallen out of love with the cross bike. Bit heavy, bit slow, bit too drop bar.

I only ever use it to ride to work in ice or snow or when the road to work floods to knee deep.

So during 2 lunch breaks and telephone calls that just require chatter the drop bars got ditched and flat bars, bar end (i have not had a pair of these since my first riser bars in 1995) v-brakes and new grips fitted.

Rode it in this morning and felt that I had a new bike.

Gotta get rid of the kelvar tyres now which feel like riding on deep pile carpet.

night ride adventure

knee deep near the edgeover the hubsIt's been raining here. Rain rain rain rain.

Good rain. real heavy, thick, robust sustained rain which I prefer to ride in than thin drizzle.

Last night my lights failed, so I had to ride home with an emergency Petzl head torch.  Could just see the road ahead. When I got across Llechryd bridge the road had a huge puddle across it which could be a small flood, or a big flood.

It was big.  Just under waist deep in the deepest parts for about a mile.

Quite an adventure, but the legs were stone cold for the last 6 miles home.

After work last night Toby, Ruben and I went for a Tour De Cardigan.  30km of windy roads, a couple of showers and a great sunset sky.  There were no wall ride accidents this time (nice one Ruben), but  a slight lack of lights (nice one Ruben).

And to finish, a stop at the legend that is Bowens chippie.  Perfect.

Pushing Up

It's my last day with James McKnight and his crew out in france and we've spend the last few days doing some serious rides. Pushing bikes up over 1000 vertical meters of Alp, camping out in a mountain hut to escape a storm, then riding down 2000m of virgin singletrack in the rain. Im stiff today.
