The Dave Rayner Fund

  • Posted by aron
  • 26 July 2012

The Dave Rayner Fund was set up in memory of the late Dave Rayner with
the aim to assist ambitious riders, like Dave, to make a successful career from
cycle racing on the continent of Europe.

Since its inception in 1996, the fund has helped riders such as David Millar,
Charly Wegelius and Bradley Wiggins make the transition.

To support the cause, howies are donating £5 from every bike tee sold between
23rd July and 30th July to the Dave Rayner Fund. So far we have raised
over £3000.

If you would like to make a contribution (and bag yourself a t-shirt in the process)
you can see all our cycling tees by visiting the links below.

Dan came to do some work experience at howies last summer. He worked with us on some shop installs and with other bits & bobs in general too. A splendid lad that also makes a cracking cup of tea.

Him and his mate Robin are heading out on a charity cycle to Paris soon so for those interested in seeing what they get upto, take a peek at their blog here - http://2wheelygoodguys.tumblr.com/ They're aiming to do 60 miles a day for 2 days, a stop in Paris for a day and then 2 days cycling back. They're in training at the moment, and trying to sort out bikes and the finer details.

So keep an eye on their blog for new updates. If you'd like to keep updated on twitter, you can follow them here - http://twitter.com/2wheelygoodguys

Good luck fellas.

Run for...

Here at the Bristol shop we have strong links with a local charity called Fairbridge West which works with some of the most disadvantaged and disengaged young people in Bristol and the West. Fairbridge West offer these young people a combination of 1-2-1 support, training and skills to help them realise their true potential and change their lives. You may remember that some of us had a box car challenge with Fairbridge last year.

They are inviting 50 people to take part in the Bristol Half Marathon on September 5th 2010 to raise money for their great cause. If it's the time of year for you to dust of your running shoes, then the 13 miles harbour side to suspension bridge run would be fun to aim for and you have plenty of time to build up those muscles and get your time down.

The places are going to be available soon, cost £36 and we will be getting some leaflets in the shop with some more info. If you are interested, contact Ella at Fairbridge West on 0117 9425362 or email her at ella.pollock@fairbridge.org.uk

On May the 1st howies will not be alone, we are launching a tee shirt company called TeePay.com. The concept will be very simple.

  • you design what you'd like to print on a tee shirt
  • you upload your design/s to the teepay site
  • you market it however you want to whoever you want
  • we promote Teepay and all the tee shirts online
  • anyone can do it and if you think you've got some ideas then lets see them
  • if you sell 50 shirts or more  we print them and pay you a royalty for every shirt sold
  • everyone gets a piece of the cake
  • simple

But we need some help, there's an option to pay some of the royalty to charity and we'd like to know your five favorite charities. so please let us know one and all. howies will of course be giving it's earthtax donations as well.  Please link this blog to as many others as you can as we need this info pretty darn quick.
