Matt, Sam and Barny have been hard at work today, getting the gallery above the shop ready for Friday's live painting show to launch the 'Weapon of Choice' exhibition which runs until 22nd August. Here's a sneaky peek..

There will be beer, rum and music, a perfect start to your Friday night out in Brizzle.  Tickets are not required but there will be a bouncer to keep an eye on numbers, so come along early, and if its like today, bring a brolly in case you have to queue in the rain!

gritting

The gritting event at Waterloo's Tunnel this Saturday seemed to go down a storm!  I still haven't managed to get down there to check it out,but after seeing these photos I am definately going to head down there after work one evening.  I was really curious how this collaboration of knitting (or crochetting...there's no discrimination!) and graffiti would turn out.  From these photos it looks inspired.  Check out their flikr album.

The tunnel underneath Waterloo train staition has become an urban art gallery of sorts.  The tunnel has featured a regularly changing display of work from international graffiti artists over the past year, since it was opened.  And this August gritting will be the new attraction!  Gritting (yarn bombing/graffiti- knitting/urban knitting) is the use of knitted or crocheted cloth to modify and beautify urban outdoor surroundings.

yarnbombing

If you are an urban knitter or graff artist, and want to get involved, then you are invited to take part on August 1st.  The aim is to create a compliment of spray paint and yarn, to develop an amazing collaboration in this exhibition space.

What some people find ugly others find beautiful, this is what I love about art.

Ugly places, scary places can become places of sanctuary for some.

This artist has taken beauty and ugliness and mixed it together with his sweet emotion.

Zezao is one of Brazil’s most famous graffiti artists and I love the fact that he finds beauty in a place that others dare not to think about.

There is a great interview with him see below for a taste and click here for the rest

More of his beautiful work here

‘We walk deep into the sewer tunnels. Zezao is armed only with an aerosol can and a cigarette lighter to use as a blowtorch in case we're swarmed by cockroaches or rats. Finally he chooses a wall and gets to work. Most graffiti artists choose highly visible sites for their canvas, but for Zezao, his art is more personal than public.’
