Coming of age..

I've known this customer for about  for about 6 years, when he used to buy howies gear from my shop on Park Street. Those jeans he's wearing are over 5 years old and he's worn them for a large part of that 5 years! Having nearly taken his leg clean off on a tree whilst out riding (and put a mahoosive hole in the knee) he decided it was time to trade them in.

Amy sorted him out with a super fresh pair of Stoker Selvedge (my absolute most facourite jeans ever) And yes, the OSDs he's wearing started out life a very similar colour!

We have limited stock in Bristol and Carnaby St, of the Stoker Selvedge jeans (no 32 waists, I'm afraid) but at £110 from £160, they are such good value. I've worn mine every day for over a year now and I reckon there's a few more years in them yet!

We have a new shop window at Carnaby St.

Blood, sweat, and tears and have gone into putting it together.

We are using it to promote our new hemp and Japanese green caste denim jean.

Come and see it for yourselves.  We also have an amazing series of illustrations on our blackboard, drawn by the talented Zoe, which tell the whole story.

Not quite jeans... but...

Yeah, yeah, I know they’re not jeans. I also know I can’t buy any more either, which makes them all the more special. When I saw your blog about jeans stories though, I had to drop you a line.

My Ventile Towpath trousers have been going strong since summer 2004. They’ve travelled all the way around the world. They were my only trousers when I spent six months living in a tent. They’ve accompanied me into trees and over rocks on mountain bike spills. They’ve kept me warm in my sleeping bag above the snow line. They’ve been the first thing to throw on once the midwinter wetsuit and rash vest comes off and I’m freezing in some god forsaken empty seaside car park. They’ve motorbiked the length and breadth of New Zealand (as well as most of the UK), where I trusted them to protect me should the worst happen. They’ve kept me dry in winter storms, but been cool enough to wear in the summer. I can wear them to the pub one evening and then take them out for a few miles tramping or biking the next day. They are simply genius.

The best thing is, being so full of great memories, they make me smile every time I wear them. Here’s to a good few years more of Ventile happiness.

Mowie's Story

I've been keeping hold of a pair of old Howies jeans for about a year, simply because I wanted to photograph them and send the photo in... So I saw your blog post and got 'em out.

I bought them in about 2002/2003 - can't remember what they were called - but they took some hard wearing. Plenty of riding and lots of travelling. Eventually the crotch ripped whilst playing around on my bike. I still wore them for a bit and then the seams burst - which was my fault as I started tipping the scales at 90kg, and I bought them when I was about 80+kg.

Mistakenly I bought a pair of Levis in about 2006 - they lasted a whole season before the same thing happened to them - so I won't be doing that again!

At the moment I am skint so I won't be buying anything soon.

Take it easy. Enjoy the photos - look forward to seeing the scrapbook!

All the best

Mowie
