Bristol Sample Sale this weekend

  • Posted by ade
  • 16 April 2012

We are heading back to Bristol this weekend to do a howies sample sale at the bottom of Park street. We will be in here, number 30 on the right as you are heading uphill. It's only a 15 minute walk from Temple Meads rail station too.

The space is not as big as usual, so you won't be able to get your bike in.  And if Thursday is it's usual busy self, you may be in the queue for a bit. But we are around for 4 days, and not everything will be out on the first night.

As before there will be some amazing bargains,  last-in-the-box pieces from seasons past, unique samples of items that were never put in to production, prototype samples and maybe things that need a button or a stitch.

The sale will run:

Thursday 19th April: 4pm to 8pm

Friday 20th April: 10.00am to 6pm

Saturday 21st April: 10.00am to 6pm

Sunday 22nd April: 11.00am to 4pm

But remember, as always, stock is limited so if you want the first stuff out the box, be the early bird.

Oh and bring a bag to take your purchases home in.

It was a classic crazy start to the sample sale.

Big queue, a rush once the doors opened and a fair few hundred people through the door.

Scott and James served the queue for 4 straight hours, Jack re hung stock and James and me spent 4 hours hanging new stuff on hangers.

If you are coming down over the weekend we are going to get Cardigan to send us up another delivery to see us through Sunday.

And there is plenty of gold left.

20% Off Night/Sample Sale

as the old saying goes, you wait ages for one bus and then two come along at once,  tomorrow night here at Carnaby Street it is our twice yearly 20% off evening in association with Grazia magazine and over at Brick Lane our London sample sale will also be taking place, so for those people not able to make it to both we have printed up some vouchers that Ade and the guys will have over at Brick Lane allowing you to use your 20% off in the shop until 5pm on Sunday (unfortunately not in conjunction with any other offers we may currently have running in store).

there's only a limited number vouchers so make sure you don't forget to ask for yours.

ps. you will need to get them signed on the back in order for them to be valid.

thanks for your offer of help

James, one of our warehouse stalwarts, has spent the last few days hanging 3000 pieces of clothing ready for the sample sale.

Our normally new pin clean warehouse is looking closer to turmoil.

Louise has been going through our product development cupboard and pulling out merino, denim, knitwear that never made it to production. They will be limited edition 1 of 4 ever made.

If you have never made it to a sample sale then Thursday 4-8pm is mayhem.

As the doors open the space fills, the rails empty and the changing room is a sea of underwear.

The queue to pay will be long, but you will get first pick.

We will have the van men from Crymych arrive on Friday with another delivery which we will unpack over the last 3 days.

We are going to be in London this weekend with the usual van full of sample sale bits and bobs.

We have some of last winters stuff, some one off samples that only just  made it past the drawing board, some returns that need a button or a stitch and some gold from the last in the box.

All at silver prices.

We are going to be at the Dray Walk Gallery in the Truman Brewery again. E1 6QL

Barney is already in London with his bike and I truck up Thursday with mine.

The opening hours are;

Thursday 25th November 4pm to 8pm

Friday 26th 11am to 7pm

Saturday 27th 11am to 6pm

Sunday 28th 11am to 5pm

If you come you can bring your bike into the space and bring a bag as we won't have any. There is also a great bike shop there, many many places to eat and some great street art.

If your coming from out of town get the train to Liverpool street and the walk is 10 minutes.

A ride with friends old and new

After the sample sale on Saturday we got out at 6.30 to go on a bigger city hack. Super Ted Poppy from Cooler Magazine and her brother Will (who could really coaster wheelie), Nick who we have been chatting to for years at sample sales and have never ridden with. Barney and me. We headed out into the City to Smithfield Market. Then up into Camden where the traffic was heavy and a real buzz. Then a huge climb upto Hampstead Heath where we found The Spaniard pub where we had proper cider that tastes like apple juice and kicks like Tequila.

Then we bombed back down hill through the Holloway road into a hot city and a great vegan fest in SAF off  Old Street.

It's nice to have a city buzz when you live in the sticks.

This is what Will did 70% of the ride.

Wheelie to the sun through Camden

The climb to the heath. It just went up and up and up. I have always liked up.

This was the cider. After a big climb the road flattened for half a mile and then it pasted tightly between two buildings which Ted declared the place for a cool cask ale. The queue in the Spaniard was huge. The food, booze perfect and the  beer garden was a tranquil buzz.

Balmy summer nights have been a long time coming.

finish work at 8. finished dinner at 10.

rode out from brick lane down to the tower of london. hacked over tower bridge and had a close shave taking pics on holey roads.

down to the tate. over black friars.

raced as fast as our legs would spin along the river then up into Trafalgar square.

We stopped and read all the signs that the protesters have put on their tents opposite parliament. It's good that people in this country can raise their voice. But do we do it often enough now we have comfortable lives?

Then we tracked back to Piccadilly and then headed home planning tomorrow mornings ride.

Breakfast at Rapha's place then itchy feet to see some outdoor stuff. Then work.

Tomorrow is shaping up to be another great day in Greater London.

what a great couple of days.

we have been out hacking the streets on the fixies. we drove down from Wales and then did a midnight run, then today we got up early did the east end, into the city, into Trafalgar square where we got told to dismount, past downing street, met mike forham who was looking at the houses of parliament. (We had left him in cardigan as he's off on the photo shoot) onto the changing of the guard at Buckingham palace, down crazy Piccadilly, Regent Street, Carnaby Street, Oxford Street and then hoofed it back to the east end. All in hot sunshine.

Tonight we ride again.

And tomorrow morning.
