Bristol Shop

Bristol Shop

We did a few blog posts about opening a shop in Bristol then we went quiet.

But when we came to do the sample sale in Bristol there was a lot of questions about it, so here is a little update of what we have been upto.

We found a great property in a great location struck a deal and hoped to be open by July, but it wasnt a simple deal.

We were to sub let half the premises off a company that is leasing from the landlord. The tough bits were that the post office was across the back of the two sides and had a 2 year lease left. Our lease was to be 15 years. The interior needed new lights, floor, ceiling and a clean lick of paint. A big job.

Oh and the building is listed.

So our direct landlord wanted to move the post office to a new location, split the property in two and in we go. But they couldnt seem to action the decision and it dragged on for 5 months and no work could start without a decision

We said that we were happy to take a smaller space with the PO there and move into the larger space when their lease expired, or take all if they were gone. Still this did not move things along.

No one could make a decision.

Whilst this was going on I had to jump many hoops to get the budgets approved.

So we found an even better property 2 doors up. We had to start negotiations again. The landlord was a bit jumpy about us being his client and we had to jump all the budget hoops again.

So now we have provided all the landlord wants and hopefully next week we will get the lease to begin negotiating on.

BUT. One thing I have learned is that it ain't over till it's over.
