Remember I wrote to the London Underground and asked for the yellow happy carriages?

They responded. Yeah!

The don't like the idea. Boo. Have a read of Ben's response. I don't think that they entertain fun what so ever!

Dear Mr Gunn

Thank you for your feedback form suggesting we develop a 'sociable carriage' on our trains.

While I appreciate your suggestion and understand why you've made it, I'm sorry, it's not an idea we can any take further. I'll try my best to explain why not.

I'm afraid the bottom line is we run a railway, not a social improvement programme. While we can and do put out messages and requests about the way we expect our customers to behave towards each other when using our services (eg: to give up seats to those who need them, or to wait for customers to get off the train before boarding), I'm afraid it's not really for us to say whether they should talk to one another.

On top of that, as we're actually ultimately part of local and national government, we're bound by law to use any money we get for our 'core business' - running our railway. This means we'd be unable to commit any resources, however minimal, financially or in kind, to such an idea.

I'm sorry if this is disappointing, but I hope I've clarified the situation for you.

Please contact us again if you need any help from London Underground in the future.

Best wishes

Ben Thomas
