I went to Russell Davies interesting talks in London today.
I was honoured to be able to introduce the speakers in the first half of the day. Although I was totally nervous.
The speakers spoke for 5, 10 or 20minutes and the subjects were Lego, horses, Churchill, Generalists, Gorilla geography, guitars playing and design (or rifts through the ages), masks, money design, food, the naming of things, not sleeping, 38 people playing recorders together (I was one), space and sound, funny words, toilets, booze, vacuum cleaners, a sons brain development, war, animation, the universe, raw materials of social engineering, scribbling and the concept of the welsh word hiraeth.
All were so personal, individually told and just lovely to listen to raw jumbled up subjects..
But my favourite was James Houston who did a remix of Radioheads song Nude using a Sinclair ZX Spectrum, Epson LX-81 Dot Matrix Printer, HP Scanjet 3c and a Hard Drive array.
He graduated on Friday with it and its gone massive on the net overnight.
Watching it and getting that tingling up my back and pins and needles in my head listening to it I can see why. I went and told him so and he was a great guy, and he was excited by the reaction to his work.
If you do one thing on the net today, watch and listen to this with great headphones. Its all real.
And I got to chat to old friends and new.
