Social media turns us into data junkies.

Now everything is a number; how many followers you have, how many likes your little sunset photo got… a mathmatical measurement of your own self worth and a calculation your value to the big data machine.

Their cookies follow you around the internet, leaving a trail of crumbs for the algorithm. Then the algorithm pumps more of what you like into your brain. An infinite loop that keeps you coming back for more.

They’ve got us hooked.

Social media should be a place to create, learn, inspire and share funny videos of dogs. But it can become a place of overwhelming negativity, of insults, arguments, criticism and misplaced moral judgement that saps your will to live.

So it’s good to disconnect now and then.
